Nurses have been facing role evolution. They are expected to function, not only as competent nurses, but also care managers, health
educators, client advocates, researchers and change agents.
It is important for nurses to continually acquire new knowledge and skills, analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities,
desirable attitudes and personal integrity in order to fulfil their professional roles.
Continuing nursing education is the application of the principles of adult learning and lifelong education to facilitate nurses in
acquiring the required competencies for effective functioning in the work setting.

provide continuing nursing education programmes that are responsive to service needs and meet community expectations
provide opportunities for nurses to access programmes through a variety of media and flexible modes of programme delivery
foster collaborative relationships with other organisations / training providers in programmes delivery
build on the competencies and knowledge of all nurses to improve practice within HA
promote the desire of nurses for lifelong learning and personal responsibility for keeping current in nursing practice
