This program is a 3-year Basic Nursing Program leading to an award of Higher Diploma in Nursing and eligibility to apply for registration as Registered Nurses (General) with the Hong Kong Nursing Council.

Program Aims, Structure and Mode of Study
The program aims to prepare graduates to become competent, caring professional nurses who have developed an understanding of the holistic nature of health, able to apply the principles of nursing and demonstrate proficiency in caring for clients in the primary, secondary and tertiary level of health care settings.
The program is a three-year course organized by the Hospital Authority (HA). Teaching will be mainly conducted in either of the following gazetted Registered Nurse Training School: (a) School of General Nursing, Caritas Medical Centre or (b) School of General Nursing, Queen Elizabeth Hospital or (c) School of General Nursing, Tuen Mun Hospital, with theoretical input from a local tertiary educational institute.
The curriculum includes both theoretical input and clinical practicum in various HA hospitals and community settings.
Medium of instruction is mainly in English, supplemented by Chinese.

Professional Recognition and Career Advancement
On successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to apply for:

Registration as Registered Nurses (General) with the Nursing Council of Hong Kong.
Registered Nurse (RN) posts in various hospitals of Hospital Authority and other health care institutions.
Bachelor of Nursing (Conversion) programs in both local and overseas universities.

Minimum Entrance Requirements
HKALE with Grade E in one subject, or HKALE (AS-level) with Grade E in two subjects, and
HKCEE with Grade C in one subject, Grade D in English Language (Syllabus B)/ or Level 3 or above (for HKCEE issued after 2007) /or equivalent, and Grade E in four other subjects, including Biology/Human Biology, and Chinese Language/Chinese Literature (Level 2 for HKCEE issued after 2007), and
Fluent in both written English and Chinese, and in oral English and Cantonese.

Please complete the form in English and print in BLOCK LETTER with black ball pen. Applicant needs to provide his/her email address. Notification for interview (if any) would be through email. Completed forms together with application fee should reach applicant's first choice of School of General Nursing (in person / by mail) by 15 July 2008.

Application Deadline
15 July 2008 (refer postal date if submission by mail)

Eligible applicants would be invited for interview before 22 August 2008. Applicants who do not receive reply by 10 October 2008 would consider their application unsuccessful.

Application Fee
Application fee is HK$150 (non-refundable). A crossed cheque payable to "Hospital Authority" at HK$150 should reach the applicant's first choice of School of Nursing together with the completed application form.

Tuition Fees
Each successful applicant has to pay a tuition fee of $28,000 annually by 2 installments ($14,000 each).
Details of the payment would be provided to successful applicants.
Tuition fee paid will not be refunded should the student quit the program at his or her own decision, or is being terminated by the School of General Nursing concerned for unsatisfactory academic or clinical performance.

Remarks
Successful candidates will be required to pass a health check at their own cost before clinical training.
Students enrolled in this program will have full student status and they will not receive any monetary reward from the Hospital Authority.
Students are required to wear uniform during clinical placement (students need to buy the uniforms at their own cost).
Students are required to purchase his/her own insurance coverage for professional indemnity.
